PROJECT
EQUIPEX+ SMARTLIGHT
Key equipment for academic research and industrial innovation
in the field of photonics and artificial intelligence.
The SMARTLIGHT Platform
SMARTLIGHT is an EquipEx+ project to create an open platform for scientific excellence and innovation for the emergence of new photonic technologies in which artificial intelligence and light sciences benefit from each other (SMART PHOTONICS) such as:
- The implementation of algorithmic techniques for optimization, control and machine learning in nonlinear optics, quantum information, ultrafast photonics and nanophotonics.
- The development of “thinking” photonic technologies: Hardware implementation of neural networks, photonic accelerators, quantum computers, unconventional computers, sensor networks, computational imaging.
The Project was designed in 2020 in consultation with the Scientific departments at ICB and FEMTO-ST and aims to structure the Photonics platforms in Bourgogne Franche-Comté in order to promote a research infrastructure with national and European influence.
This platform is open to scientific and industrial communities on a national scale. It allows:
- Conduct collaborative research projects
- Develop new autonomous photonic devices with high added value and low energy footprint
- Provide very high-tech services
- Offer continuing education in the field of photonics.
4 TECHNOLOGY POLES
The platform’s resources are divided into 4 interdependent technological poles that support our vision of intelligent photonics.
The SMARTLIGHT project (ANR-21-ESRE-0040) coordinated by UBFC is part of the list of winners of the EquipEx+ call for projects
High-Speed Optoelectronics
A wide range of instruments for characterizing optoelectronic signals.
Multimodal Microscopies
A set of original optical microscopy stations to image the infinitely small and probe light-matter interactions.
3D Guided Optics
Solutions for the production, assembly and packaging of fiber components and integrated photonic circuits by 3D printing.
Ultrafast lasers
Pulsed laser chains for the analysis and
control of ultra-short light-matter interactions and laser machining.

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE
The SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE ensures the scientific supervision and operation of the platform. It is in charge of managing the dissemination of results, ensuring the adequacy of the platform’s strategy with the Calls for Projects (region, ANR, EU, etc.). It helps to detect and propose valorization projects to the platform’s stakeholders in conjunction with the laboratory management and the CNRS. It proposes on a case-by-case basis an implementation plan for requests for service provision or implementation of research projects on our equipment.
